Ready boost in vista

 

There may be needs at times when you need to increase the speed of your computer.Not at all times you will have the desired amount of RAM that your application needs. In this case the ready boost option in vista can be a life saver.Using this option you can use a pen drive or a compatible hard disk to act as RAM.The low cost of pen drives makes this method very viable.

Vista has very simple procedure for activating ready boost on your pen drive.When you insert a pen drive you will get an auto play dialog box in which you will have two options

1.To open the files

2.Speed up your system

 

Choose the second option and you are done.

Suppose you don’t get an auto play dialog box you can still activate this feature by going to Mycomputer and right clicking on the pen drive to select properties.The properties dialog box opens in which there is a tab for ready boost.In this tab you can turn the ready boost feature on or off.You can also set the size of memory you would like to use from the pen drive.

Devices with low speeds and low amount of memory cannot be used to provide ready boost.Yet another reason why you should have a pen drive with good storage and access speed.

This is a very useful feature in vista that can be handy at times.

Google’s new features

In this post i am going to explain three new features that google has introduced.They are

1.Search options

2.Google squared

3.Wonder wheel

First let us see about the search options.Google search has all the information in it but whether a person is able to find out answers from google depends on the way he queries the search engine.There are thousand’s of articles on net to learn the art of querying google.But still the non tech savvy people found using these advanced queries difficult to understand.For example you might want to read a review of the product or view forum discussions on a product.There are some very advanced queries to do this.Google has simplified these searches by the new search options.Using search options you can do all the above said functions just by a single mouse click.You can also easily change the timeline of the results you want to view.This tool proves to be a very handy one for people with less technical knowledge.Yet another google strategy to hit the masses.

One other feature that google is going to unveil in a short while is the Google squared.Google squared will not display WebPages as your search result instead it fetches and organises information from across the web.

Another feature that is due to be released is the Wonder wheel.It will give a graphical representation of the search results.

When your phone falls into water

People go for a swim forgetting to remove their phone from their pockets.

People spill coke or water over the phone

People get drenched in rain along with their phones.

The above scenarios are not very uncommon and this can happen to even us on a bad day.The warranty of the cell phones gets void once you drop it in the water.So you have dropped your phone into water now after picking up from the water the first thing that anyone would do by an instinct would be to switch on the mobile to check whether it works.But this action can be futile for your phone.Powering on a wet cell phone will result in short circuit.

Don’t switch on your cell phone when it is wet.

1.Place your phone in rice.Rice will absorb the moisture.

3.Place the cell phone under a air conditioner.

Once your phone dries up power it to see whether it works.

Sometime back laptop was used only for business and office work.For the computing needs at home people used only desktop.But now a days people use only laptop’s even at home.For example i am lying on my bed and typing this post on my laptop.I had a desktop before buying this laptop which i was glued into all the time.Now i seldom use it i am not even sure whether it will work properly.

But there are some people who still use the desktop’s at home.I am not against desktops but i am against people who say laptops are not comfortable to use at home.With the right accessories along with your laptop you can effectively use it like a desktop.

The first and foremost accessory that any laptop user must have is an external hard drive.Laptops now come equipped with large storage but it is still not enough.My laptop has a 320gb hard disk but that space is not enough for me.I have a 1 tera byte portable hard drive.

Another common complaint from laptop users is the low quality of the speakers.To solve this we can buy a set of USB speakers.This operates with power from USB port and produces good quality sound.

The other additional accessories that are needed are a USB hub,wireless mouse and keyboard .

With the addition of these accessories you can do all the stuff that can be done in a desktop using your laptop.

Bluetooth 3.0

Bluetooth is the common technology that is used to transfer between mobile devices.Bluetooth is now present everywhere in cell phones,laptops,television sets,car stereos etc.It has become a part and parcel of a man’s life.Bluetooth works very fast and is a very convenient scheme of transfer for small size files but when the file size becomes large for example streaming a HD movie Bluetooth lags behind in speed.The current Bluetooth technology Bluetooth 2.0 has a transfer speed of 2mbps.So the alternative that can be used for large files is WIFI.But WIFI connections involve constant communication for keeping the connection alive and causes a strain on the battery.So WIFI is not a feasible solution for mobile devices.

Bluetooth 3.0 bridges this gap and makes transfer of large files possible via Bluetooth.Bluetooth 3.0 works like normal Bluetooth for smaller files but in case of larger files it behaves like WIFI.Thus it uses the WIFI mode only when it is absolutely needed.Thus it saves battery life of the mobile device.Bluetooth 3.0 combines the best features in Bluetooth 2.0 and WIFI technology.

Another remarkable feature of Bluetooth is that it can make many simultaneous connections at the same instant unlike in Bluetooth 2.0 where only a single connection can be made at an instant.

Bluetooth 3.0 has been officially launched but the manufacturers are still working on it.Bluetooth 3.0 enabled devices should be out in the market in a year’s time.

There was time when owning a high end mobile was considered stylish but now a days everyone has a high end mobile phone .Hence the accessories market for mobile phones has had a tremendous growth.Accessories are used by  teens to make a style statement and others use it for their utility.In this post we will see the various accessories that  can be used with mobile phones.

The widest used accessory for mobiles are the Bluetooth hands free.The basic difference between a headset and  a hands free is that you can make calls with the help of a hands free whereas you can only hear music in a headset.This can come in handy when you are on some work or driving. Wolfram alpha

Wolfram alpha is the much hyped search engine that has been released recently.It is considered to be a Google killer by many.But we will have to wait and see whether it lives up to beat Google.

Google and other search engines that have been operating till now use keyword density,anchor text etc to find out relevant pages.Wolfram alpha indexes the data just like Google but after indexing it uses complex mathematical algorithms to compute the relationship among data and classify them accordingly.It checks for the highest repeated result and gives it as the answer to the query.

Wolfram alpha comes from a mathematical background and hence has done a good job with the algorithms.According to me Wolfram alpha is more of a wikipedia killer than Google killer.Wolfram alpha resembles wikipedia in many aspects due to it’s inherent mathematical features.I feel Wolfram alpha is more of a fact engine than a search engine.It gives you a lot of facts when you enter a search query than information such as source,time etc.

Wolfram alpha tries to apply a semantic approach to the query i.e it tries to understand the query and then try finding the solution to the query.It works fine if it finds the query.But many a times it returns the error message .

This can be annoying at times.

Wolfram is a delight for users who are searching on the other hand it is of no use to webmasters.
